The U13 girls battled hard last weekend, coming away with a narrow and undeserved 2–1 defeat that didn’t reflect their performance.
With regular keeper Isla away, it was a game of two brave stand‑ins between the posts.
- ⚽ First half: Striker Mia stepped up in goal and, thanks to a defensive masterclass from Lily, Eva, and Tilly, kept a clean sheet with little to do. Up front, chances fell to Lissy, Alana, and Charlie, but the breakthrough just wouldn’t come.
- 🧤 Second half: Tilly took her turn in goal, showing courage and composure. She produced a superb double save—diving to block the first effort before bravely taking a powerful strike to the face and refusing to let it pass. Despite her heroics, Burnley broke forward to take the lead. The girls responded instantly—Mia’s driving run and cross found Alana, who rifled home the equaliser.
Momentum swung again when a huge handball shout was waved away, denying the girls a chance from the spot. Then, in the dying seconds, a challenge from behind saw the ball spin agonisingly over the line for Burnley’s winner. The referee blew for full time immediately—a cruel ending to a game the girls deserved far more from.
